Born November 10,1983, painter and printmaker Aneet Fontes remains inspired by her home city of Havana. Emotion and memory play a leading role in her portrayal of the urban landscape. Fascinated with Havana’s Spanish colonial architecture, Fontes uses the lens of her memory in capturing the doorways, windows, lights and pathways of the bustling city streets.?
Fontes explores the duality of the city portrayed in reflections captured in glass and in water. She depicts the world visible to the eye, as well as the parallel more complex world that exists simultaneously. She discovers a new composition in the blurred imagery. For her, there is a special beauty of Havana despite its disrepair— not evident to everyone—but nonetheless exists.
