Luis Rodríguez NOA

Luis Rodríguez NOA

Born June 14, 1970

Born in Baracoa, Guantánamo, NOA is leader among the new generation of Cuban contemporary artists.  Using irony and humor in both his paintings and drawings, NOA depicts the lives of nosy neighbors and curious strangers.  He probes existential questions through his creation of comic characters and symbols, which are punctuated by the occasional written word.  From running children to over-packed cars, to not-so-private dinners and gatherings on rooftops, NOA manages to capture the charm amid these otherwise frenetic scenes.

NOA lives and works in Havana. He is a 1989 graduate of the National Art School in Havana and a 1994 graduate of the Higher Institute of Industrial Design. He has exhibited his work in many personal and group exhibitions, both nationally and internationally, and has work in private collections in Europe, Latin America and the United States. He has been awarded First Prize in the  2005 National Contest of Posters Commemorative of the 400th anniversary of Don Quixote, Cuba, and Honorable Mention in the 2007 Biennial of Ceramics, Havana. NOA is a member of both the Association of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and the Cuban Prográfica Committee.
