Born in Havana in 1964, Sandra Dooley only began to paint at age 36. Dooley draws inspiration from artists such as Picasso, Chagall, and Matisse, for it was through their reference and art books she learned to paint.
Dooley's work reflects her life at home living by the sea.
Each painting is filled with friends, family, pets, or fantasy scenes, all acting as an extension of her day-to-day experiences. It's in these "little moments of leisure with relatives and friends" that the artist finds happiness. It is the life Dooley knows best, and one that she represents in her paintings.
Reflective and thoughtful, each figure, usually a woman, is surrounded by bright splashes of color. She began working with oil paints, and now incorporates oil pastels and embroidered fabrics into her mixed media works.
She has been exhibiting her works since 2000, in Cuba, Canada, Germany and the United States.
