Opciones para el futuro

Provincetown Exhibition:  August 4- 16, 2017

Boston Exhibition: April 7- 30, 2017

In the current Boston exhibition, artists Edel Bordón and Aissa Santiso explore Cuba's Options for the Future.  On view will be a combination of twelve oil paintings and nine needle drawings.  These works address themes coming to the fore in a changing world--commercial seduction, systems of power, and the role of the individual in the new schemata.

Born in 1992, Aissa Santiso's first serious art training was under longtime Galería Cubana artist Edel Bordón. In last year's Profesor y Estudiante (Teacher & Student) exhibition, we explored the ways in which Bordón has influenced Santiso in technique as well as in theme. During his tutelage, Bordon encouraged experimental painting, along with the pursuit of her feminist perspective.

A recent graduate of the prestigious Institute of Superior Art in Havana, Santiso at age 24 is increasingly recognized for her superior talents. Santiso's work explores how the perception of the past is often a manipulation or reconstruction of the images engraved on both our personal and collective memories

While maintaining his longstanding position as the Director of the Painting Department at Cuba's most historic art school, San Alejandro Academy, Bordón continues to produce artwork that transcends genre and style. Edel Bordón has participated in over thirty personal exhibitions and scores of collective shows around the world, and continues to be an enormous influence in the lives of young artists in Cuba.
Both Bordón and Santiso are members of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC).
