Galeria Cubana is pleased to present Caprichos de la memoria (Whims of memory), a solo exhibition of 13 large scale paintings by artist Aneet Fontes.
Enchanted by Provincetown on her premier visit last year, Fontes has painted our artist colony by the sea for the first time! Her solo exhibition features the playful streets of Provincetown, along with those of Boston and Havana in her signature dynamic reflective style. For the first time, Fontes paints using a palette knife in select works.
Originally from Havana, she explores these places with excitement through the lens of a tourist. For her, visual complexity lies not only in architectural elements, but in the customs and patterns of each place’s inhabitants. This exhibition explores the impact of memories in relationship to place, and how the mind can often play tricks.
Fontes is guided by thoughts and fragments of everyday life. In this way, she communicates on multiple levels with people from all walks of life, creating a discussion about one's sense of community and belonging.
