La vida simple
(The simple life)
Using humor and irony, Luis Rodríguez NOA & Juan Carlos Vazquez Lima portray the comical relations of neighbors in Havana and the the inventive ways they resolve everyday obstacles in their latest exhibition La vida simple (The simple life).

The exhibition features 19 new drawings by Juan Carlos Vazquez Lima and 11 new paintings by Luis Rodríguez NOA.

The spirit of originality is not only the subject of Juan Carlos Vazquez Lima’s work, but is also found in his own personal whimsical style, operating outside of the rules of tradition. As a self taught artist, his drawings bring to life spindly limbed characters, their dogs, other hybrid animals, and a montage of wheels. These characters are often mechanically jointed— sometimes stacked, at times intertwined—but always representative of a life as journey and adventure in a place where invention is a necessity.

Through his masterful use of acrylic and ink, NOA’s comic characters depict the lives of nosy neighbors and curious strangers amid the bustling streets of Havana. From running children, to over-packed cars and rooftop dinners, NOA manages to capture the charm of these otherwise frenetic scenes.

NOA is a graduate of the National Art School in Havana and a member of the Association of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC). He has exhibited his work in many personal and group exhibitions, both nationally and internationally. His comic characters and illustrations have been published in Cuban and foreign magazines for many years.
