Quien soy...Quien fui (Who I am ... Who I was)

EDEL BORDON

June 24 - July 7, 2020
In his 13th year with Galeria Cubana, Edel Bordón never fails to engage the audience with his experimental and diverse range of works. Galeria Cubana was fortunate to obtain artwork by the artist early in 2020, enabling the gallery to move forward with his solo exhibition this year Quien soy... Quien fui (Who I am... Who I was).

In this exhibition, Bordón addresses themes that resonate all the more acutely during these turbulent times. Each piece steeped deep in emotion, probes questions of our collective struggle. The exhibition consists of 21 new works, 11 paintings on canvas and 10 on paper.

His works explore varying subjects from the origins of humankind, to love and loneliness. At the core of his work is the belief that we survive through the confrontation of our fears; our existence creates within us the mechanisms to save ourselves.

While maintaining his longstanding role as the Director of the Painting Department at Cuba's most historic art school, San Alejandro Academy, Bordón continues to produce artwork that transcends genre and style.

Edel Bordón has participated in over 30 personal exhibitions and scores of collective shows around the world. He taught several artists represented by Galeria Cubana including Aneet Fontes, Darwin Martinez and Aissa Santiso. Bordón continues to be an enormous influence in the lives of young artists in Cuba.
