Color, Line & Figure II

August 5 - August 18, 2020

DARWIN E. MARTINEZ_ GUILLERMO ESTRADA VIERA _ DAIR

This exhibition features paintings and prints by three artists whose work speak distinctly to their experience and roots in Havana. The trio explores themes of memory and time, lending commentary on a place where things often stand still in an otherwise changing world.

Darwin Estacio Martinez is a painter whose style is unique in its snapshot quality. He invites the viewer to interpret the action in the scene by focusing on a fragmented shot, highlighted by his bold use of color and his distinctive lines. One is left to wonder what is transpiring with his mysterious subjects.

Dairan Fernandez de la Fuente is both a painter and printmaker whose family history has long been an inspiration. The richness in the texture and color of his works is achieved through his woodcut process, as well as his own interpretation of Art Deco motifs and themes.

Guillermo Estrada Viera is both a painter and printmaker known for his critical and introspective work. This year he continues his focus on the everyday struggle, but with a playful sense of humor using a pastel colored palette. His shift is no doubt inspired by his studiomate, Sandra Dooley.
