Everyday Loneliness
After more than one year inside, Edel Bordon's latest paintings are steeped deep in emotion. Bordon addresses issues of our collective struggle faced in this worldwide pandemic. His works explore themes of loneliness, separation and isolation

Bordon admits his psychological state played both with him and against him at times over the past year. Threaded through his work are subliminal stages that he believes we have all experienced in this crisis emotions not easily expressed, including those that mortified us, made us angry, hurt, and even amazed.

Bordon presents 13 new paintings on canvas and 6 drawings scored using a sewing needle, his signature technique. Many of the figures in Bordon’s paintings are behind gates and windows, leaving the viewer with a sudden impact. The impression is purposefully striking and beautiful, a symbolic reflection of our troubling times.

Renowned artist Edel Bordón has served as Director of the Painting Department at the San Alejandro School of Art, which is the oldest art school in Latin America. The school has been closed since March 2020, but his influence continues. He taught several artists represented by Galería Cubana including Aneet Fontes, Darwin Martinez and Aissa Santiso. Bordón remains an enormous influence in the lives of young artists in Cuba and his work is in many collections worldwide.
