En el Caribe (In the Caribbean) brings together the work of 5 Cuban artists whose work is centered distinctively on themes of island life.
Of special note are 2 new artists to the gallery. The young Arianna Alfaro presents 10 exquisitely intricate primitive landscapes with vivacious color. Her native town, Sancti Spíritus, Cuba provides her source of inspiration for her form of naïve painting. Alfaro’s work explores country life— fields, farms, homes, and townspeople alike. This is the first time Alfaro is exhibiting in the U.S.
Galería Cubana is also thrilled to exhibit the work of Jesus Hermida for the first time. Hermida presents 11 paintings in varying formats, all are stylized florals in bold color that echo the flower power of the 60’s. Hermida comes from a family of artists and is known in Cuba for his murals throughout Havana.
