Cosmos de Habana (Cosmos of Havana)

Provincetown Exhibition: July 15- August 3, 2016
Boston Exhibition:  May 6- 29, 2016

Cosmos Habana is an otherworldly journey depicting comic characters and zany happenings of everyday life in Central Havana. The exhibition features eight new drawings by Juan Carlos Vazquez Lima and fifteen new paintings by Luis Rodriguez NOA.

The spirit of originality and inventiveness is not only the subject of Juan Carlos Vazquez Lima's work, but is also found in his own personal whimsical style--operating outside of the rules of tradition. As a self taught artist, his drawings bring to life spindly-limbed characters, their dogs, other hybrid animals and an assemblage of rickety wheels. These characters are sometimes stacked, at times intertwined, and always representative of adventure in a place where invention is a necessity.

NOA's playful works portray the humor, passion and occasional absurdity found on the bustling streets of Havana. From nearby fishermen to over-packed cars and rooftop dinners, NOA manages to capture the charm of these frenetic scenes. Through his masterful use of acrylic and ink, his comic characters dance in and out of floating shapes, creating works filled with wit, humor, pleasure and mystery.
