Boston Exhibition: July 3- 31, 2014
Sandra Dooley is in every sense of the word a 'folk artist'. As a self- taught painter she is in many ways free of traditional training. Dooley explores the physicality of paint; she builds it up, carves into it, and ads glue to create rich collage with fabrics.
Her imagery is the extension of her inner life; from domesticated farm animals, to icons of Santeria, to daily home life with her family and friends. When asked about what drives her to work she said, "I have to paint to feel alive, it's that simple."
