Born in Havana, Cuba on December 10, 1964
Only beginning to paint at the age of 36, Sandra Dooley is a self-taught artist whose paintings reflect the little moments throughout her daily life at home in Cuba. Each painting is filled with friends, family, pets, or fantasy scenes, all acting as an extension of her day-to-day experiences.
Dooley draws inspiration from artists such as Picasso, Chagall, and Matisse, for it was through their reference and art books she learned to paint. Reflective and thoughtful, each figure, usually a woman, is surrounded by bright splashes of color. She began working with oil paints, and now incorporates oil pastels and embroidered fabrics into her mixed media works.
She has been exhibiting her works since 2000 in Cuba, Canada, Germany and the United States.
